The Mekong Press Foundation will be set up in 2006 to
Establish a new imprint, Mekong Press, which will concentrate on publishing work by local writers.
Initially, broadly encourage and support the work of writers and book publishers in Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand and Yunnan Province in China through writing and book publishing-related seminars in 2006. Subsequently, Mekong Press will work through building a network of book publishers.
The Press is in the process of being registered as a non-governmental organisation, with its office in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Mekong Press is an initiative of its Publisher, Trasvin Jittidecharak, who is also Publisher and Director of Silkworm Books in Thailand; it is funded by the Rockefeller Foundation.
